Careers / Jobs

At Outside, our mission is as clear as a Lowcountry sunrise: to enrich lives by connecting people to epic places, products, and experiences. This mission fuels everything we do, and it all starts with our amazing team. We’re all about making Outside the best place to work in the South Carolina Lowcountry—where every team member feels like a superstar, is inspired to chase big dreams, and empowered to grow both personally and professionally. Fun, fulfillment, and a whole lot of outdoor adventure. That’s the Outside way!

All candidates are required to successfully complete training where appropriate

Outside Guide Training Course

Working at Outside is a fun and challenging experience. Prior experience is not necessary.

Guide candidates are required to successfully complete our 5-day Outside Guide Training Course, which includes kayaking skills, safety skills, basics of interpretive naturalism, ecology, history and environmental awareness. We also cover public relations and leadership skills. This is comprehensive training for the full range of our programs—kayak, boat, and land-based tours. It is an intense, comprehensive training that can lead to further certifications.

All new staff, with very few exceptions, are required to successfully complete this program. The 5-day Guide Training Course costs $275, of which $175 of the cost will be reimbursed provided that you remain employed with Outside through August 15, 2026. The balance covers books, training materials and uniform.

Successful completion of this course is required to become an Outside guide or Captain.
